Sometimes when I see an item that I can’t afford I then tend to look for a third party equivalent.

When it came to purchasing a flash however I decided that for a reasonable amount of money I could get the Canon 430EX II Flash, so I decided to do so and here is my review.

Canon 430EX II Flash Review

Before the 430ex II, I had previously never used flash before, but within a couple of weeks of usage I have no idea how I managed without a flash gun.  I now have several flashes including the next model up the 580EX II.

From what I can gather from researching the production of the Canon 430EX II Flash is that this model is an improvement on what has been delivered by canon in the past.  Where other model flash guns have failed the 430EX II has improved upon them to make a very powerful yet relatively small flash gun.

The Canon 430EX II can rotate both horizontally and vertically and this is extremely useful for when you want to bounce the flash lighting from the ceiling or surrounding walls to give a softer light on your subject.

If you want to get into flash photography but your concerned that it may be too complicated to follow then don’t worry,  there is an automatic feature on this flash gun that allows the user to worry about the camera settings while the flash will adjust the power based on your selected camera settings.

This is a great feature for beginner flash photographers as this is the way I once learned flash photography, without this feature I do believe I would have struggled with learning flash.

The Canon 430EX II finally comes with a metal foot which allows you to connect to your camera body and lock into place in seconds.  You can also reverse this process and remove the 430EX II from the camera body very easily.

If you’re thinking of getting a flash and you’re just starting out I highly recommend the Canon 430EX II Flash to anyone.  It’s affordable, user friendly and also holds its value very well.  If you wanted to sell the flash in the future then you could possibly get around the same price you paid for it.
