Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 lens review
The Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 lens produces high quality images in a small and unobtrusive manner while being very affordable. The focal range of the Tamron 17-50 is very popular and is an excellent upgrade from your kit lens, also because of the small size and the lightness of the lens it makes a perfect walk around lens.
Just like the Canon 50mm f1.8 which is also an excellent upgrade from the kit lens the Tamron isn’t of excellent build quality but is more than adequate for everyday use. I found that the zoom ring has adequate grip and turns rather smoothly. If you’re not going to be throwing this lens around which I hope you don’t do with any of your lenses then this lens will last you a long time.
The auto focus on this lens is excellent and I found that during testing it focused very well and didn’t cause me to lose any shots because of focusing speed. The Autofocus is a little noisy but it is quick so I can’t complain.
This lens internally focuses which means nothing extrudes at the end however you should confuse this with the zoom, because when you zoom the barrel will change lengths.
One of the best features with this lens is the sharpness of the image quality, even at f2.8 this lens is incredibly sharp and if you have the opportunity to open up the aperture more then the sharpness will increase all throughout the image.
Some chromatic abrasion can be seen when fully stopped down, however this is very slight and nothing to worry about.
Overall if you’re looking for a new lens within this range then the Tamron is an excellent choice. The image quality is excellent and the lens is very light and small meaning that it can be taken anywhere with ease. The lens is also very fast being an f2.8 lens which means it can be used to freeze the action or it can also be used in low level lighting conditions where a flash isn’t allowed. Add all of this together with its excellent focal range then you’re on to a winner and for the price the Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 lens is a bargain lens.
